A library visit can begin with a novel and end with a new skill or useful conversation. Wirral’s proposed Libraries for All strategy builds on that wider role, setting out ambitions for libraries as welcoming community spaces as well as places to read.
The five-year plan is due before the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee on Thursday 22 October, following consultation with residents, staff, partners and young people. As of the council’s 15 October announcement, adoption remains a decision for that meeting.
The interesting detail is how residents would see whether it works. Proposals include annual delivery planning, performance reporting and new service standards, intended to make expectations clearer and progress easier to follow. Reading, learning, digital inclusion and connections to other services feature in the vision.
For local readers and community groups, the next step is following the committee discussion. This announcement does not set out new opening hours or announce a library closure; check the council’s live information before planning a visit.
