If you know your usual bus by its number, this is a good week to give that routine a quick refresh. Wirral's publicly controlled network is due to launch on Sunday 25 October, with changes that matter for commutes, town-centre visits and evenings out.
The council's 19 October announcement says most Wirral services are being renumbered as part of the regional network. One example is the 17 becoming the 417. Updated timetables and route information are available through Merseytravel, so check the journey you actually use rather than assuming every departure stays the same.
There is also a chance to ask someone in person. The published programme includes an information session at Birkenhead Bus Station on Wednesday 21 October, from 10am to 2pm. Follow the official announcement for the full schedule and confirm arrangements before making a special trip.
For a workplace or community group, a small shared reminder can help: put the official journey-planner link where everyone can find it and check your next early start or late finish. The new network begins on 25 October; our archive photograph shows the bus station in 2022.
Use the council announcement for Merseytravel links, updated route details and information sessions.
